The Monday, February 11, Selectboard agenda focused primarily around a review of Act 143, “an act relating to municipal land use regulation of accessory on-farm businesses and to hemp cultivation.” This included an informational presentation from Zoning Administrator Aaron Brown, discussion from the Selectboard, and input from the public.
In this year’s town elections, Nancy Richardson is running for a two-year seat on the Selectboard against incumbent Frank Tenney. Louise McCarren, Ed Stone and Jim Faulkner are running for the three-year seat vacated by Lane Morrison. In no particular order here is an introduction to the candidates.
The January 14 Selectboard meeting opened and adjourned early, with the Charlotte Library addition and FY20 budget among the agenda items. A full agenda dominated the Monday, November 26th Selectboard meeting, beginning with a 4:00 p.m. site visit for a Highway Access Permit and an executive session interviewing two applicants for minutes-taker. Carol Miklos was selected and a motion passed to draw up a contract offering employment through the fiscal year. Miklos’ first day of work is Jan 1, 2019.
The Charlotte Selectboard set a date during its Nov. 13 meeting to hold employee performance reviews for four town workers beginning Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. The town employees slated for performance review are Town Administrator Dean Bloch, Zoning Administrator and Sewage Control Officer Aaron Brown, Town Planner Daryl Benoit and Recreation Director Nicole Conley.

A small group of Charlotte Central School students and their co-principal got a close-up look at the workings of town government when they attended the Oct. 22 Selectboard meeting. The four students and administrator Jen Roth were given 20 minutes to outline their request for a safe pedestrian crossing from the school to Philo Ridge Farm.
At its Oct. 8 meeting the Charlotte Selectboard authorized a speed study on Church Hill Road between Route 7 and the Hinesburg Road following a request by Matt Zucker who expressed concern about the rate cars travel along the road. Zucker spoke to the board during the public comment portion of the meeting, asking that a speed study be conducted by the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission. Zucker spoke with the municipal organization and said the group can do the work at no cost to the town.
The Charlotte Selectboard, at its Sept. 24 meeting, approved a motion to designate the annual East Charlotte Tractor Parade a town event. The event will be held this year on Sunday, Oct. 14.
The Thompson Point’s Wastewater ordinance is going to go under the microscope again at the end of the month after board members decided during the Sept. 10 meeting that additional work was needed on the enforcement and penalties section.
The Charlotte Selectboard agenda on Monday, Aug. 27, opened with a joint meeting with the Planning Commission, and a lengthy discussion on the standards set for private roads and driveways in town ensued.
Charlotte Selectboard members returned to the subject of affordable housing on Monday, August 13 with a continued review of the Affordable Housing Trust Fund’s grant policies and procedures.
The July 23 Selectboard meeting was a lengthy one, with over an hour of discussion dedicated to the issue of affordable housing. The town agreement with Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services, as well as the town’s hazardous waste ordinance, were also big-ticket items.
Public comment for the evening began with concerns for the Old Lantern Inn and Barn, which serves as a wedding and event space. The Selectboard was asked to make a summary of the venue’s permissible events public.
The May 29 Selectboard meeting began with further discussion of the Thompson’s Point wastewater ordinance. Language in the document was refined for clarity, but no major changes were made. A full walk-through of the ordinance was scheduled to take place at the June 11 meeting.
“I like being a Selectboard member because I feel like I’m contributing to my community,” Fritz Tegatz said about his service on the Charlotte Selectboard. Tegatz has been elected to the Selectboard twice, in 2014 and in 2017.
