For many years, the Charlotte Grange was an important part of our farming community, and membership included entire families. The Grange was not only a place where neighbors shared news, compared notes on what was happening on their particular farms, discussed issues that affected their lives and talked about possibilities for change both on a state and/or federal level, it was also an important part of their social life.

We are coming to the last few weeks of the Summer Schedule, and the Fall Schedule, covering September, October and Novemer, will be out at the end of this month. Meanwhile, Center participants are active—as usual —with all sorts of courses, activities, events and lunches on Mondays and Wednesdays. But things never really stop here—we just move into another season.

Thanks to all who helped us celebrate the kick-off of the library expansion fundraising! Special thanks to Nate Hodgson-Walker and Ted LeBlanc who provided great music on the library porch, as well as to Gilfeather’s Provisions and Philo Ridge Farm who donated delicious treats for all to enjoy and to Unity Farm, which shared some of their fabulous flowers.

Music continues to emanate from the Charlotte Grange Hall on a regular basis thanks to Mike Walker and his colleague, Ted LeBlanc.  Open Mic evenings have been held monthly since last September and May was no exception and earlier this year, Mike initiated the Friday Night At The Grange featuring two performers from earlier Open Mic evenings, one playing during the potluck dinner, the other after.

I don’t know about you, but it warms my heart to see folks out cleaning up our town together. It says so much about how we care for this land and shows how important it is in so many ways to keep trash from piling up. Whether driving, biking or walking around town, isn’t it great to not see that junk? And to share a collective feeling of stewardship? Thank you for helping out on this special day!

Well, yes—and sometimes, no. The numbered spot where I park my car in front of my place has a significant indentation and loves to gather all the water available from surrounding areas. Not a puddle—more like a pond. Maddeningly, the water is only at the driver’s side rear door and not on the passenger’s side at all. Of course, this rear door is the one I use to stash my items to take to work, etc.
