Summer is winding down, and the new Fall Schedule is an insert in this issue. It covers September to November, and all courses and events will be taking place in person. There are no Zoom courses planned as of this date. There are 42 courses, gatherings, events and lectures to choose from, and hopefully, there will be several things that will speak to you.
Our OPEN flag is out. Do stop by to say hello, 9-4, M-F—we’re right across from the post office.
As we begin to open our doors and start offering in-person classes again, we are pleased to announce that Lori York has joined the Senior Center in a part-time position as Assistant to the Director. Lori has a wealth of experience and is looking forward to meeting participants and welcoming volunteers back to the Center.
Life is often not as simple as we would like. Despite the announcements that senior centers in Vermont may open again, there are still many guidelines and restrictions that centers throughout the state are grappling with.
When it comes to re-opening the CSC, it looks like a little patience is still in order.
Daylight Saving Time is back, and spring is here, officially. The last patches of snow are disappearing, and the daffodils, crocuses, tulips and flowering trees are on their way. We stretch and blink in the sunlight, like Rip Van Winkles we are, waking after a long sleep.
It’s probably safe to say that there will be a morning—and it is just over that hill. Coming soon. Here’s what’s happening at the Senior Center.
By the end of March, colleges will be notifying high school seniors of their acceptances, while college students will be registering for their fall 2021 classes. Having an academic road map can help the student develop a plan to take a range of courses that can influence their future success.
Winter season is winding down at CSC—which is not to say that there is not a lot happening—just that other than the Wednesday talks at 1 p.m., there are no new courses that start in February.
Have you been sitting at home much? There’s no time like the present to sign up for an online exercise course or two. You are always welcome to try out one class—if you decide you do not want to continue with it, the fee is waived.
For more expanded descriptions, as well as additional courses and talks, please visit CharlotteSeniorCenterVT.org.
Have you noticed that this issue of The Charlotte News has the new CSC Winter Schedule? Once you have a chance to take a look, it may be a little misleading as to what is actually taking place in the Center building these days.
Treating everyone with kindness is a form of thanksgiving. And it can be great fun to perform random acts of kindness—anonymously. Give it a try!
Have you been looking in vain for the Winter Schedule insert that was supposed to be in this issue?
The Winter Schedule, which covers December, January and February, will be an insert in this paper on 11/25, posted on the website on 12/1, and mailed out the first week in December. Thankfully, despite the restrictions and being all online, it is still quite full.
People are continuing to stay active—either with outdoor activities or with online classes—and there are a lot to choose from. If you are hesitant about going online, please call and leave a message at 425-6345, and we will have someone call you back to provide assistance with Zoom.
It is now abundantly clear that there will not be a Grand Re-Opening of the Senior Center any time soon. Nor is there a phased re-opening plan.
We are coming to the last few weeks of the Summer Schedule, and the Fall Schedule, covering September, October and Novemer, will be out at the end of this month. Meanwhile, Center participants are active—as usual —with all sorts of courses, activities, events and lunches on Mondays and Wednesdays. But things never really stop here—we just move into another season.
