Climate Solutions Forum coming to Charlotte-Shelburne-Hinesburg

Senator Chris Pearson and Representatives Mike Yantachka, Jessica Brumsted and Kate Webb invite you to a forum at the Charlotte Senior Center on Monday, Dec. 16, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., to discuss how Vermont can act on climate change in the coming legislative session. They invite you to join them to learn more about important climate policies like the Global Warming Solutions Act and a 100 percent renewable energy standard and to find out what you can do during the coming legislative session to help get meaningful climate legislation passed.

Charlotte Repair Cafe set for Nov. 9  

The fifth Charlotte Repair Cafe is happening Saturday, Nov. 9, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Charlotte Congregational Church, 403 Church Hill Rd in Charlotte. The Repair Café is part of Transition Town Charlotte’s mission to build community health by extending the life of material things, keeping items out of the landfill and reducing global warming. Benefits include saving us money, building skill and getting to know our neighbors better.

Monster Bash: A great time for a great cause

It’s the social event of the season—the costumes are elaborate, the dance floor is jumping, and some have been known to have a cocktail or two as the evening goes on. It’s the Mahana Magic Monster Ball, held at the Old Lantern every year the week before Halloween, and this year’s party (for revelers 21 and older) promises to be just as ghoulishly grand as the last. The party takes place on Oct. 25 from 7 to 11 p.m.

The last day to drop off your items to donate to the sale is today, Thursday, Oct. 3, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Please no humidifiers, dehumidifiers, electronics or textbooks; we will take only a limited number of clean books. Clean clothes, dishes, household items, toys are always welcome!

For many years, the Charlotte Grange was an important part of our farming community, and membership included entire families. The Grange was not only a place where neighbors shared news, compared notes on what was happening on their particular farms, discussed issues that affected their lives and talked about possibilities for change both on a state and/or federal level, it was also an important part of their social life.

Transition Town Charlotte is pleased to show Woman at War, an Icelandic film by Benedikt Erlingsson on Thursday, July 25 at 7 p.m. at the Charlotte Senior Center. Popcorn and drinks offered. $5 donation appreciated. Discussion to follow. It was the official selection at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival and the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival.

Kids Cook VT show off their skills to the community July 12

On Friday, July 12, campers will serve a pop-up lunch in the vestry at the Charlotte Congregational Church, welcoming community members with a meal featuring sandwiches, deviled eggs, potato salad, watermelon pops, and their special switchel recipe. Proceeds from the “pay what you wish” donation lunch will be used toward food and supply costs for the camp.

After seven long years, Steve’s Garage corner is beginning a new life. Peter Carreiro, “the milkman” of Charlotte’s milk delivery firm Rise ‘n Shine, held an open house at the property on Thursday, June 20, during which he and his wife, Dale, highlighted their plan for an ambitious redevelopment of the five acres at the corner of Church Hill Road and Route 7.

Music continues to emanate from the Charlotte Grange Hall on a regular basis thanks to Mike Walker and his colleague, Ted LeBlanc.  Open Mic evenings have been held monthly since last September and May was no exception and earlier this year, Mike initiated the Friday Night At The Grange featuring two performers from earlier Open Mic evenings, one playing during the potluck dinner, the other after.
