Communications/ Community Connections. As board members broke into individual committees, Kelly Bowen, who was selected chairman of the panel, CVSD Chairman Dave Connery, Erin Brady and Kevin Mara met as the Communications/ Community Connections panel.
Lead Principal Stephanie Sumner said she and the Charlotte Central faculty and staff were excited to welcome back returning students and are looking forward to getting to know new students joining the CCS community.
Stephanie Sumner, Jen Roth and Cassandra Townshend are the trio heading up Charlotte Central School’s administration this fall semester. Lead principal Sumner is the PreK–8 building principal and PreK–4 instructional leader. Co-Principal Roth is the 5–8 instructional leader. Townshend is CCS director of special education and CVSD behavior systems coordinator.

As a sophomore at Champlain Valley Union High School Natalie Meyer made a bold move. She started a club with a mission close to her heart: a peer-led Refugee Outreach Club. The R.O.C., as it is known, now spans five high schools and Middlebury College. To date there are about 60 members alone at CVU, one of their biggest clubs.
Longtime Williston resident Jeanne Jensen, now of Hinesburg, is serving the Champlain Valley School District as chief operations officer, replacing Bob Mason. After a long career in engineering at IBM/Global Foundries and serving more than a decade on the CVU and CSSU school boards, Jensen is excited for the new school year to begin.
With about two weeks to go before the start of a new school year, Charlotte Central School Lead Principal Barbara Anne Komons-Montroll is stepping away from her post to assume a new position in the Champlain Valley School District. Komons-Montroll of Burlington has accepted the job of director of communications and public relations. She starts her new position the week of Aug. 28 and will work from the district’s central office in Shelburne.
The first-ever Champlain Valley Union High School summer musical, The Lion King, will be performed Aug. 11–13. Carl Recchia is the choral director at CVU and musical director for this production. His son, Ben, a 2016 CVU grad, is directing. Benjamin directed two shows at Charlotte Central School, Peter Pan and Seussical. Mary Recchia is the costume designer/builder.
