Vermonters know there’s a difference between taxes and tax rates. Especially when it comes to property taxes, a lower rate doesn’t mean lower taxes if the grand list value of a property goes up. It’s important to distinguish between taxes and rates as the administration and the Legislature seek a compromise on education funding for next year.
The Champlain Valley School District has been working with Natasha Grey and her 6th-grade students at CCS for the past few weeks. The students took part in a NASA mission called Sally Ride EarthKAM (Earth Knowledge Acquired by Middle school students), a NASA educational outreach program that enables students, teachers and the public to learn about Earth from the unique perspective of space.
For children between the ages of three and five who reside in Charlotte, Hinesburg, Shelburne, St. George and Williston, now enrolling for the 2018-19 school year.
At this time of year the days are a little bit longer and Vermonters all over the state turn their thoughts to…Town Meeting Day. Over the last three months the Board of the Champlain Valley School District, along with district administration and local volunteer “budget buddies,” have put together what we believe is a fiscally conservative yet strategic and forward-thinking budget. On March 6, the voters of our district will be asked to approve our budget and four separate articles to address essential functions.
Perhaps you saw the headline in the January 24 issue of The Charlotte News: “CVU responds to recent drug-related issues.” The story shed light on growing concerns among educators and policymakers about the appearance of vaping and juuling in schools. Are these part of some new dance or fashion craze? What does this have to do with drugs in our schools?
CVSD Board of Directors will be holding four budget meetings in December and January in the towns of the district. Each will start at 6 p.m. The Charlotte meeting will lead off on December 5 in the CCS Library.
Communications/ Community Connections. As board members broke into individual committees, Kelly Bowen, who was selected chairman of the panel, CVSD Chairman Dave Connery, Erin Brady and Kevin Mara met as the Communications/ Community Connections panel.
