If you’re going to talk the talk, you walk the walk. Or in Dave Baird’s case, you run the run—and you keep running for 62 miles. To celebrate the end of a coronavirus-altered but still fun fall middle school cross-country season, the Charlotte Central School coach, 5th-grade teacher and athletic overachiever spent last Saturday running a mile for each member of the team. If there were a Ph.D. for perseverance, we’d be calling him Dr. Baird for sure.
The Lake Champlain Championship Series is a summer-long series of sailboat races to determine the top competitors in six different categories, held in various spots on one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.
Mt. Philo will close at noon on Friday, Oct. 19, and stay closed through Sunday, Oct. 21, for the Historic Mount Philo Hillclimb, sponsored by the Sports Car Club of Vermont.
Take your mark…get set…..go! On Saturday, Sept. 22, Vermont Day School students participated in the Champlain Mini Maker Faire and challenged the community to a Great Zucchini Race. Visitors to the booth were presented with a design challenge to create an ergonomic vehicle out of a zucchini, using wheels, axles and a variety of creative materials, ranging from pipe cleaners to cardboard and feathers to duct tape.
The 13th Annual Kelly Brush Ride, powered by VBT Bicycling and Walking Vacations, is set to roll on Sept. 8 in Middlebury, bringing hundreds of riders through Charlotte as they ride the 100-mile “century” and the 85-mile routes. A total of about 500 riders are expected to complete one or the other loop.
A light rain was falling early on Saturday, August 18, as boats and sailors gathered at Point Bay Marina in Charlotte for the sixth annual Diamond Island Regatta. It was a cool, overcast, blustery morning, with a stiff wind from the north blowing down Lake Champlain.
