For the last print issue of The Charlotte News, a group of Charlotte citizens came together in a virtual brainstorming session to see how they could help all residents of our town. We started a listing of opportunities to help our residents cope with the current situation. That list has grown; as this continues, we will make information available through both the published edition of The News and also in periodic email versions.

On April 16 the Planning Commission held its first meeting since early March, with all members virtually present. While planning and scheduling future meetings was the only agenda item, members also discussed logistics such as site visits and how to encourage public participation in hearings using a virtual platform.

Vermont’s 529 college savings plan tops $350 million in assets

Vermonters are giving the gift of education and earning tax credits too. Investments in Vermont’s 529 college savings plan now top $350 million, the Vermont Student Assistance Corp. announced on Nov. 29. Vermont’s plan, the Vermont Higher Education Investment Plan, or VHEIP, has paid out over $143 million to help more than 5,800 students over the years to continue their education.

All you children get your lists ready. Santa Claus is making a pit stop at the Charlotte Fire and Rescue on Sunday, December 10th from 1pm – 3pm. He will be visiting our volunteer fire fighters and Rescuers. They have been very, very good and he decided that they deserved a visit. Meet Adrianna LaClair, new probational firefighter

When Adrianna comes to CVFRS for training nights on Wednesdays, she always brings her big smile and quick laugh. She was born in Burlington and grew up alongside her brother who recently moved to New Hampshire. Her dad, who makes hundreds of customers happy at Curtis Lumber, and her mom, who has run a day care for 32 years, have been married 34 years. Adrianna thinks of them as great role models.

Meet Marc Hachey

Marc was born in Winthrop, Maine, in 1994 and is the eldest of two boys. His father is a chemical engineer for a paper company. His mother, who must be a very special individual, is a teacher of children with challenging behavioral needs. Marc’s fondest memories as a child were waterskiing and being out on the lake with his brother and father.

New sessions of exercise favorites begin next week: Gentle Yoga, Chair Yoga, Tai Chi, Fitness at Any Age, and Pilates. You’ll find schedules and fees in the printed program. As always, you are welcome to come in and try a class to see if it’s the one for you. Celebrating the Life of Caleb Ladue

Strains of Beethoven’s “Für Elise” filled the hall, as over 300 people crowded into the sanctuary at All Souls Interfaith Gathering in Shelburne on Nov. 18. Family and friends were there to celebrate the life of Caleb Ladue, who died at age 25 on October 22 while climbing in the Andes. Every chair was occupied and people stood against the walls and overflowed into the hall.
