Meet Scooter MacMillan, our new editor

On behalf of the board of directors of The Charlotte News, I am pleased to announce that Scooter MacMillan has joined the paper as our editor.

Many of our readers are familiar with Scooter’s work as a reporter and assistant editor at The Citizen, one of five newspapers owned by the Vermont Community Newspaper Group where he’s worked for the past three years.

Earlier in his career, Scooter was the marketing director for the Springer Opera House in Columbus, Ga., where he designed and implemented marketing campaigns that boosted attendance and annual giving.

He also worked for many years as an editor, writing coach and reporter for several community and daily newspapers in North Carolina and Georgia. Scooter’s work has been recognized with many awards including, most recently, the 2020 New England Press and Newspaper Association award for history reporting.

At The News, Scooter will report on key meetings in town – the selectboard, planning commission, development review board and school board. He will also dig into the stories behind the news and report on ways that towns similar to Charlotte have addressed some of the issues we face here.

“Like everyone else, I fell in love with Charlotte the first time I saw this town. Even though it was at night in a blinding snowstorm, I thought then I would like to work here. I’m thrilled this opportunity to turn that initial infatuation into a reality has come to fruition,” Scooter said.

For now, he will attend most meetings via Zoom and conduct interviews over the phone. Once COVID infectivity rates decline, hopefully in the near future, Scooter will be spending much more time in Charlotte.

Send your story ideas, questions and tips to him or call 802-881-4728.

Welcome to The News, Scooter MacMillan. Everyone here is looking forward to working with you.
